Colombia, home to a vast diversity of birds such as hummingbirds, toucans, and tanagers, is the ideal destination for bird photographers. With its lush biodiversity and stunning landscapes, the country offers an abundance of unique and endemic species, providing exceptional opportunities to photograph the beauty of birds in their natural habitats.
Your journey begins at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, where our team will be waiting to assist you with your arrival and transport to a hotel near the airport for your first night of rest. The next day, we will take a flight to Cali, the starting point of our expedition.
During our expedition, we will explore the Eastern Mountain Range near Cali and the Central Mountain Range in the coffee region. Colombia offers an incredible diversity of nature reserves and lodges, many with specialized feeders that attract a wide variety of birds, providing unique opportunities to capture stunning images.
You will have the chance to photograph a wide variety of vibrant tropical birds, such as hummingbirds, tanagers, toucans, cuckoos, and woodpeckers. Guides specialized in ornithology and nature photography will be available, offering continuous support and tips on the best techniques to capture these amazing species.
The expedition also includes domestic flights between Bogotá and Cali, and Pereira to Bogotá, transportation between observation points, food adapted to the terrain conditions, and photo review sessions at the end of each day. The journey culminates with the return to Bogotá for the conclusion of the expedition and the celebration of the captured images.
Prepare yourself for a fascinating journey through Colombia, where, during our 10-day expedition, we will explore diverse habitats rich in biodiversity. We will visit areas such as the Cloud Forests, the Los Nevados National Natural Park, the Rio Blanco Nature Reserve, and the Coffee Triangle region. During the journey, we will have the chance to observe over 6 species of Antpitta, including the Scaled Antpitta, Slate-crowned Antpitta, Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, Brown-banded Antpitta, Tawny Antpitta, and the Equatorial Antpitta—some of the most emblematic and challenging birds to spot in the region.
In addition to the Antpittas, our expedition will take us to places such as the Los Nevados National Natural Park, where we can observe mountain toucans like the Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan and the Black-billed Mountain-Toucan, as well as other fascinating birds such as the Multicolored Tanager and the Toucan Barbet. The Coffee Triangle region, with its mountains covered by coffee plantations, will be the ideal setting to explore the local fauna and learn about Colombia's coffee culture.
The combination of mountainous landscapes, forests, and páramo areas creates the perfect environment for birdwatching, making this expedition an unforgettable experience for all birdwatching enthusiasts.
Each photo session will be carefully planned, taking into account location, lighting, and background, to ensure that every captured image is special. Additionally, we will have specific photography sessions, such as the use of multi-flash to capture unique moments of hummingbirds in flight. During our stay, we will lodge in comfortable accommodations chosen for their proximity to nature. These lodges are surrounded by abundant vegetation, allowing you to take photos directly from the terraces or explore the gardens, often visited by spectacular birds.
This will be an intense experience, filled with opportunities to photograph and make the most of every moment. Additionally, there will be time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes that Colombia has to offer.
Throughout the expedition, you will be accompanied by our specialized guides: Francisco Munoz, a professional photographer and expedition leader from Neblina Forest, with extensive experience in various regions of Ecuador and around the world, and Amer Cavalcant, a professional photographer specializing in nature photography. Both will be available to share their knowledge and ensure that each moment is unforgettable.

To capture the beauty and details of birds with excellence, we suggest using DSLR or mirrorless cameras. Equipping your camera with lenses of at least 300 mm is essential for getting good shots. For detailed sessions, consider a macro lens, and a wide-angle lens is useful for captures in forest environments. Don't forget to bring a tripod to ensure stability and precision in your photographs.
The weather can vary greatly during the expedition, so we recommend dressing in layers. On colder mornings, warm clothing is necessary, while for daytime hikes, opt for lightweight and breathable clothing. This strategy will help maintain comfort and adaptability throughout the expedition.
