Ecuador, the land of hummingbirds, tanagers, toucans, and much more, is the perfect paradise for bird photographers. With impressive biodiversity, the country hosts an incredible variety of species, offering unparalleled opportunities to capture the beauty of birds.
Our journey begins in Quito, the vibrant capital of Ecuador, renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity and considered one of the top destinations for bird photography in South America. Ecuador offers an excellent selection of lodges and reserves, many of them equipped with top-quality feeders, providing unparalleled opportunities to capture stunning images of the country's rich wildlife. On this trip, you will have the chance to photograph an incredible variety of vibrant tropical birds, including hummingbirds—the true jewels of the Andes—as well as tanagers, toucans, trogons, woodpeckers, and the impressive Andean Cock-of-the-rock, appreciating the diversity and beauty of the species that inhabit the Andes.
Your arrival in Ecuador will be facilitated with full support from our team. A specialized guide will be waiting for you at Quito International Airport to assist with your arrival and transportation to the meeting point. Throughout your stay and at the conclusion of the expedition, you will have continuous assistance from our team.
Note: On some photographic outings, the itinerary may be conducted in reverse order. The tour guide may adjust the plan on any given day based on weather conditions, feeder activity, recent sighting information, newly available locations, and other factors. Since most of the tour is centered around specific lodges, there is built-in flexibility in the itinerary to ensure the best possible experience.
Prepare for a fascinating journey through Ecuador. During our 10-day expedition, we will focus exclusively on the birds of this country. We will explore a variety of habitats, including the Cloud Forests of Pichincha, the Antisana region, Mindo, and Mashpi. In the Cloud Forest of Pichincha, we will photograph species such as the Sword-billed Hummingbird, the White-bellied Woodstar, and the Mountain Tanager. We will also visit Ecuador's birdwatching capital to spot the Plate-billed Mountain Toucan and the Racquet-tailed Hummingbird.
In the Chocó Highlands and Mashpi, one of the most biodiverse regions of Ecuador, we will photograph the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, the Rose-faced Parrot, as well as various tanagers and hummingbirds.
In the Antisana region, we will search for the Andean Condor, the Ecuadorian Hillstar, the Giant Hummingbird, and the Andean Caracara.
Finally, in the Eastern Cloud Forest, east of the Antisana Volcano, we will photograph the Torrent Duck, the Eastern Morph Cock-of-the-rock, and a variety of hummingbirds. During the expedition, you will have the chance to observe more than 200 bird species, including an impressive variety of tanagers, toucans, hummingbirds, and aracaris.
Each photo session will be carefully planned, taking into account location, lighting, and background, to ensure that every captured image is special. Additionally, we will have specific photography sessions, such as the use of multi-flash to capture unique moments of hummingbirds in flight. During our stay, we will lodge in comfortable accommodations chosen for their proximity to nature. These lodges are surrounded by abundant vegetation, allowing you to take photos directly from the terraces or explore the gardens, often visited by spectacular birds.
This will be an intense experience, filled with opportunities to photograph and make the most of every moment. Additionally, there will be time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes that Ecuador has to offer.
Throughout the expedition, you will be accompanied by our specialized guides: Francisco Munoz, a professional photographer and expedition leader from Neblina Forest, with extensive experience in various regions of Ecuador and around the world, and Amer Cavalcant, a professional photographer specializing in nature photography. Both will be available to share their knowledge and ensure that each moment is unforgettable.

For detailed sessions, consider a macro lens, and a wide-angle lens is useful for captures in forest environments. Don't forget to bring a tripod to ensure stability and precision in your photographs.
The weather can vary greatly during the expedition, so we recommend dressing in layers. On colder mornings, warm clothing is necessary, while for daytime hikes, opt for lightweight and breathable clothing. This strategy will help maintain comfort and adaptability throughout the expedition.
